Series of work

Jennifer Geraci’s Soundwave series takes you straight back to the 1980s; a time when music, technology, and culture blended into something unforgettable. Inspired by the Transformers character “Soundwave,” a stoic Decepticon who transformed into a cassette player, the series reimagines the Walkman as more than just a gadget. It turns it into a bold, vibrant symbol of freedom, creativity, and the joy of having music at your fingertips wherever you went. Graffiti-covered streets, booming basslines, and the raw energy of a new musical genre pulse through these paintings, capturing the rhythm of a generation that didn’t just listen to music—they lived it.

This series brings together nine bold pieces, each named after one of Soundwave’s cassette tapes. The paintings are created in three striking colorways; a blue-green, orange-yellow, and purple-blue. Each one evoking a different mood. The cool blues feel calm and fresh, the warm oranges bring an electric energy, and the deep purples carry a soulful intensity. By repeating the same central image in three variations, Geraci mirrors the way we replay a favorite track over and over, each listen taking on a new meaning depending on where we are or how we feel.

Soundwave echoes the energy of a movement, capturing the rhythm of a generation and the power of design to shape the way we experience time, culture, and memory.
